Second Life April 16, 2009

The job fair was tragic.

But I also discovered Second Life’s business plan. For those who don’t know second life is a social virtual environment (definitely not a ‘game’ in the traditional sense) where people interact virtually.

The make money by (and this is no joke) selling virtual real estate ( I guess virtual land holdings) to their consumers. This is awesome for two reasons;

1) The amount of land to sell is not limited by any real world physics principles (it is literally virtually unlimited), and

2) People give the real money and in return they give them literally nothing (I suppose you could say space on a hard drive, but that is even stretching it).
