So I have a music degree and I always wanted to know what you could do with it in the business world…

Well evidently a lot.   One of the Ph D. students in the Stanford department of Computer Music created a company that designs iPhone apps which basically allow people to compose short pieces.

Below is another video they have posted to their website.

All in all they have made over 3million dollars seeing the products in the iStore and will probably do more within the next 2 or 3 years before any significant alterations to the main product.

So evidently a music degree counts for something…

If you’re interested in new technology businesses associated with music and stanford, check out the most recent Stanford Mag. There’s a big spread on a company called Melodis thats developed a neat algorithm for searching for songs by humming or singing into your iPhone. Check out the article at http://www.stanfordalumni.org/news/magazine/2009/mayjun/pc/melodis.html.

I have this application! It’s so fun. You can change keys, look up music, play almost any song. It’s SO FUNNN!
